A good day

This is what Elijah looks like right now minus the paci. Three days and counting. Everyone upstairs looks the same and the teenagers down stairs are winding down. Maria drove herself to her friend Katie's house for the first time. I hope she doesn't get lost on the way home. Life is a highway, and a rollercoaster. Today was as smooth as glass compared to yesterday. I found frozen organic green beans and corn at Sams Club. Imagine that! They also had organic decaf coffee. I came out of there whistling even though I had parted with several hundred dollars. Four of my kids were champions today and got high fives. Alyona didn't miss a word on her lesson today at reading class. She chattered to me on the way back. She said that when she got married, for her honey moon she and her husband were going to take a blanket and a pillow and lie on the grass in the yard and look at the stars. She said that she would only marry a man that loved God and was good with children and would work hard. That is a smart 9 year old. Igor washed the supper dishes without being told while I was running taxi service. Anya swam her heart out after an hour and fortyfive minutes of practice without a complaint as the coach pushed the team past it's limit and the other 3 kids scowled and complained. She didn't say a word or slow down. Salvador and I, coming back from the Cub Scout Christmas party sang "I Smile" at the top of our lungs all the way home. Some days make up for the bad ones.
I told Maria earlier today, when she was saddened by thinking of the good old days in our family, that we needed to make now the good old days. That's easy to say but I have to remember that what I do today will be the memories that my children have of their childhoods. If we thought about that every minute, I think that we as parents would do things a lot differently. I plan on trying to make them be good memories as much as I can. I'll have a few good ones from today.
