trying again

It is about time that i posted something on this blog. Not that many people read it but just in case..so much has happened since i posted last. The boys have spent a good part of the afternoon sewing their patches on their scout uniforms. It's only been almost two years since they got them. We are a little slow around here. They went fishing before lunch and after they had done a couple of school subjects. At least they said they were going fishing. Sergey came home because he was hungry and said that he and Igor had gone swimming. They swam all the way across the lake to the dock on the other side. Now we have lived here for 11 years and these two have been here for 6 and 4 years. They have never been swimming in that lake nor have they ever asked to go. Neither of the can swim as well as a good dog either. Why they decided to do it today with no adults around, no life jackets on the bank and on a breezy, cool day I couldn't tell you. What could I say? I had never told them not to swim in the goose poop and green slime filled water and didn't think that I needed to. WRONG. I am never one step ahead of this crowd, always one step behind. Can't punish them for their lack of judgment, they were born without any it seems. Maybe they'll grow some in time. I suppose that I should have known better than to let them go fish alone but they have been doing that for a couple of years and with the exception of encountering a large angry timber rattlesnake, have never been in trouble fishing. I can here the neighbors around the lake, "There are those boys again. What kind of parent would let them swim in that lake, much less with no adults around?" Maybe I should resign from this position for my incompetence but there are no applicants in line for the job.
